X Marks Your Spot | Acrylic Painting | Diptych 96" x 96"
I have worked texture and bold color into this piece. A playful interaction of organizing, and disorganizing, to know who I am within all of it, and freedom to be BOLD.
My father was a Contractor/Masonry and we had such a special relationship. He was a base|guitare player and we could spend hours playing music together. Due to not hearing until grade 3 - school learning was a process for me. I had to learn the basics first. To help me study and to make it more fun, my father would take out the guitar to help. I would rather play music with him than go out with my friends. He died at 15 years of age in my arms. I love to separate my canvas in a mathematical way - I calculate to have an event space. I see it as a beat- many steps in life. I take a masonry chalk line to divide my canvas. There is love in the process and my approach is very much conceptual. I knit paint like a play the piano. Two different melodies in one. I like to incorporate it into my art. It brings me to him.
